Puranpoli - Wish you a Happy Holi

Puranpoli is very famous all over India

In Maharashtra we have Puranpoli as special traditional sweet dish on festival of Holi

So on occasion of Holi presenting you Maharashtrian recipe of Puranpoli




Ingredients for sweet filling i.e. Puran


  • 250 grams of Channa dal
  • 250  gram chopped Jaggery or Jaggery powder 
  • 100 gram sugar 
  • 1/4 Nutmeg powder 
  • 5/6 Cardamom crushed finely
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp Ghee
Puran recipe:
1.     Rinse and soak the Channa dal for 3-4 hours before you start cooking.
2.     Take 3 cup of water in pressure cooker and cook the Channa dal  properly
3.     Takeout the extra water from pressure cooker and keep it aside you can use that extra water to make Katachi Amti (kind of dal tadka).
4.     Add Cooked Channa dal and chopped Jaggery  or  Jaggery power in it and mix it well
5.     Heat ghee in pan and add nutmeg powder and crushed cardamom 
6.     Add Channa dal and Jaggery mixer for 5-10 min on low flame and stair well 
7.     till it became dry now switch of the flame and let it cool down
8.     Next step is mashing the Puran you can use mixer grinder or special kitchen tool made for it Puran Machine  mash it well .Now your Puran is ready.



Puranpoli Ingredient
  • 2 cup wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp. ghee
  • Pinch of salt
  • water
  • some extra ghee for frying 
  • 2-3 tbsps. rice flour for dusting


Dough Preparation 
Take whole wheat flour in bowl add ghee and pinch of salt add water as required, dough should not be dry, it should be soft but also it should not be watery after kneading the dough.


Puranpoli recipe:
  • Take some portion of dough (small or large depends on size of your Poli size
  • Roll it on dusted rice flour rolling board make small pancake
  • Add Puran in the center  take all the edges together and join them


  • Start rolling it again make a medium size circle.
  • Add some ghee on pre-heated Tava or pan and place the Puranpoli on it.



  • Cook it until its colour changes to golden turn second side down and repeat the step.





  • Once you done put Puranpoli on kitchen napkin for some time.
  • Repeat the same steps for all Puranpoli.
  • Serve your Puranpoli with warm milk or ghee.
